The world-famous snowball blossoms continue to be one of the most outstanding artistic products from the MEISSEN® Porcelain Manufactory.
We again have Johann Joachim Kaendler to thank for their creation – as so often in the Manufactory’s golden age in the 18th century. He first produced them in 1739 for a service that King Augustus the Third gave to his wife Maria Josepha as a present.
Applying the myriad tiny porcelain blossoms to cups, vases or boxes was a formidable task for Manufactory staff in Kaendler’s own time and has remained so ever since. Each individual blossom is manually fashioned, luted onto the vessel with the aid of a sharp knife and then painted by hand.
